The People’s Party, also known as the Populist Party, was a political party in the United States founded in 1892. It represented the interests of farmers and laborers, advocating for economic reforms such as government control of railroads, free silver, and direct election of senators. Emerging in response to economic hardship, the party gained significant influence in the 1890s but declined after the 1896 election. It played a key role in shaping progressive political movements in the early 20th century.
